About the Author
Mark Maslin is Professor of Climatology at University College London. He is currently a Royal Society Industrial Fellow. He was the former Director of the UCL Environment Institute and Head of the Department of Geography. He is science advisor to the Global Precious Commodities PLC, Global Cool Foundation, Climatecom Strategies, Steria, Permian Ltd and Carbon Sense Ltd. Maslin is a leading scientist with particular expertise in past global and regional climatic change and has publish over 120 papers in journals such as Science, Nature, and Geology. He has also have written eight popular books, over 30 popular articles, and appeared on both radio and television.

While this is a short book it still takes awhile to read because the chapters are a little wordy and can get a bit heavy on the science explanations sometimes. It is supposed to be a brief explanation and while it does cover a few of the basics it also could be a little heavy for someone who doesn't know anything about climate change and also the science behind it.
This book is an opening door to the concept of climate change. If you consider yourself curious, but uninformed, A Very Short Introduction to Climate Change is for you. It outlines in understandable language exactly what the world is facing in light of the changes our planet is going through. It would do us all a world of good -literally- if more people read this.
This is an excellent summary of the science of climate change, including a basic overview of climate systems in general as well as forays into the politics of responding to and managing climate change. Maslin directly addresses some of the arguments leveled by climate change skeptics, and he is straightforward and clear about areas of uncertainty. This is a book by a serious scientist, not a journalist, so what you can expect is an explanation of data and evidence, not a polemic. For that reason, I specifically recommend this book for people who have doubts about climate change in general or about anthropogenic climate change in particular.For those who are particularly curious, I recommend pairing this book with Maslin's other book in the Very Short Introduction series: "Climate." That one contains a far more detailed description of Earth's climate history and how the climate system operates, making it a useful companion to the book focused on present-day climate change.
Hits all the main topics you need to know if you know nothing of climate change. Definitely helps you get interested and start a change to help.
Maslin covers all of the main topics quickly but does not leave out anything important. His discussion of the science is masterful and highly readable.
This is a pretty good book to get a basis of what's going on with climate change. However, lots of typos - kinda annoying since it's a science book. I wish they had important terms bolded or something, more like a textbook.
